Elizabeth Black

Graduate Research Assistant

EDUCATION:
B.A. Earth and Planetary Sciences (emphasis in geophysics) , Washington University, St. Louis, MO 2003
M.A.T. (emphasis in science education) Missouri State University, Springfield, MO 2006

Elizabeth Black is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Physics at the COE. She has worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Physics Department at Missouri S&T and is currently a Graduate Research Assistant at the COE. Her entrance into the scientific fields of physics and geophysics were due to her passion for environmental studies and a desire to further her own understanding of the complex balances of environmental systems. Education is also of great interest to Elizabeth  – in particular, increasing the interests of students for the physical sciences (especially women) by using positive teaching techniques. Elizabeth's career goals are to find a balance between these two fields within the academic community by continuing research pertaining to environmental issues  and educating younger adults so that they, too, will continue to enhance their own basic understanding of the physical sciences.
